1994

Staring absently, you found yourself avoiding the homework in front of yourself and staring out of the window where the snow fluttered across and owls flew back and forth - hooting in friendly greetings to each other. Sat in the Great Hall, quiet chattering filled the air along with the crackling of a nearby fire that kept all the students studying away nice and warm without feeling tired. It had already been a year to remember… the tournament and arrival of other students left the castle in a frenzy filled with stolen glances at the new students who looked like they embodied beauty and strength. Being in the same year as Harry Potter who was also your friend meant that you were often involved in many conversations about whether or not the Chosen One would win the tournament. You would sigh and dismiss the conversation altogether, focusing upon the work itself or often you would find courage and say confidently: ‘Any contestant is worthy of winning.’ Which sometimes left your peers groaning, wishing that you could reveal some secrets. As if you knew… Harry barely knew most of the time what was going on with the tournament. The Yule Ball was looming closer and when you had spoke to your parents about coming home for Christmas, they had urged you to re-consider, writing that this was a once in a lifetime event and to try to get out of your comfort zone. Perhaps even go with someone? The thought made you shudder. You felt anxious at the idea of asking someone or even being asked. Yet… when you did think about going with a date, your thoughts trailed to a specific redhead who was outspoken, hilarious and had a boyish charm that made heat rush to your cheeks.
